Supreme Court Justice Noh named new head of National Court Administration
SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) -- The Supreme Court said Friday that Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae has appointed Justice Noh Gyeong-pil as the new head of the National Court Administration (NCA).
The NCA chief oversees judicial administration affairs and is concurrently held by one of the Supreme Court justices.
Noh's tenure is set to begin Tuesday, the court said.
The 62-year-old Noh began his career as a judge in 1997 and served as a research judge at the Supreme Court. He then served at the Seoul High Court, Gwangju High Court and Suwon High Court before being appointed as a Supreme Court justice in August 2024.
During his five-year stint as a Supreme Court research judge, in particular, Noh took the lead in promoting the fundamental rights of citizens by thoroughly reviewing numerous disputes related to the Constitution and administrative laws, the court explained.
The NCA chief position has remained vacant for over four months since former chief Park Young-jae resigned in February.
The appointment of a new NCA chief had been delayed as former Supreme Court Justice Roh Tae-ak retired without a successor, leaving the top court with only 13 members.
Supreme Court proceedings require at least 12 justices, while the chief justice and the NCA chief normally sit out of court proceedings.
