Yoon-heavy snow
Yoon calls for measures to prevent damage from heavy snowfall
SEOUL, Nov. 27 (Yonhap) -- President Yoon Suk Yeol on Wednesday instructed relevant ministries to take all necessary steps to prevent damage from heavy snowfall that blanketed the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province, his office said.
Yoon directed the safety and transport ministers to mobilize all available personnel and equipment for snow removal to mitigate the risks of traffic accidents and congestion, presidential spokesperson Jeong Hye-jeon said in a written briefing.
"As heavy snowfall is expected until tomorrow morning, make every effort to swiftly deliver traffic and weather information to minimize potential damage and public inconvenience caused by the snow," Yoon was quoted as saying.
He also called for measures to enhance public transportation access, including increasing the number of subways and bus services during rush hour.
Wednesday's snowfall in Seoul exceeded 16 centimeters, making it the heaviest November snowfall since modern weather records began in 1907, according to the state weather agency.
