Springtime blessings
Lee Chang-gu, head of Namgye Seowon, a Confucian academy from the 1392-1910 Joseon Dynasty, and children pose for a photo with sheets of paper with springtime blessings written in Chinese characters in Hamyang, South Gyeongsang Province, southeastern South Korea, on Feb. 1, 2023, before attaching them on the gate of the academy three days ahead of the day of "Ipchun," one of the 24 seasonal divisions of the calendar that marks the onset of spring. The banners on the right and left read "Ipchun Daegil," meaning "Good luck on Ipchun," and the other ones (2nd from L, 2nd from R) read "Geonyang Dagyeong," meaning "With signs of a positive spirit, your family is full of happiness."
