Lee vows to seek pragmatic diplomacy to tackle global uncertainties
SEOUL, June 26 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung vowed Friday to tackle global challenges by pursuing pragmatic diplomacy centered on national interests and strengthening trilateral cooperation with the United States and Japan.
Lee made the remark in a message read by Seong Ghi-hong, senior presidential secretary for public relations and communication, at an annual peace forum co-hosted by Yonhap News Agency, the Ministry of Unification and the Institute for National Security Strategy.
"The world is currently facing overlapping crises on multiple fronts," Lee said, citing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, uncertainties in global supply chains and intensifying competition in advanced technologies.
"The government will seek solutions through strategic thinking in responding to global developments and pragmatic diplomacy focused on national interests that responds swiftly to changing global trends," he said.
Lee said the government will strengthen trilateral cooperation with the U.S. and Japan, while maintaining the principles of mutual respect and deeper cooperation with neighboring countries.
Lee also pledged to make large-scale investments to provide support for cutting-edge industries and help transform South Korea into a global industrial powerhouse.
"We will do our utmost to secure new growth engines that will lead global markets and drive growth for everyone," he said.
This year's symposium was held in central Seoul under the theme of "Global complex crises and the Korean Peninsula."
