SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Yonhap) -- Army Chief of Staff Gen. Kim Gyu-ha held talks with U.S. Army Pacific Commander Gen. Ronald P. Clark via video call Friday to discuss the security environment on the Korean Peninsula and multilateral security cooperation in the region, officials said.

In the video call with the U.S. commander, Kim appreciated the U.S. Army Pacific Command's contribution to strengthening the South Korea-U.S. combined defense posture, according to the Army.

Clark assessed the South Korean Army's military capabilities and readiness posture highly, and agreed to continue cooperating in joint military exercises and in the field of defense innovation.

The two sides pledged to further strengthen security cooperation with regional allies on the occasion of the Land Forces Pacific (LANPAC) Symposium in May, a regular gathering of high-level military officials in the Indo-Pacific region hosted by the Association of the United States Army.
