(US election) Opposition leader congratulates Trump on reelection

SEOUL, Nov. 7 (Yonhap) -- Opposition leader Lee Jae-myung congratulated U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on his reelection Thursday.

In a letter sent to the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, Lee of the main opposition Democratic Party wrote, "I hope South Korea and the United States will closely cooperate and respond to the various challenges surrounding the Korean Peninsula.

"I look forward to the United States' role in the East Asia region and bilateral cooperation in the diplomatic and economic spheres," he added.
