Making Korean rice cake ahead of holiday

A shopkeeper packs sliced "garaetteok," a long tube of Korean rice cake, in five colors at a rice cake shop in Suwon, south of Seoul, on Feb. 7, 2024, ahead of Lunar New Year, known as Seol, which is one of the two major Korean traditional holidays and falls on Feb. 10 this year, forming part of a four-day break. Garaetteok is a staple used to make a traditional soup of sliced rice cake eaten during the holiday. (Yonhap)
