SEOUL, June 1 (Yonhap) -- Hanwha Aerospace Co., a defense affiliate of Hanwha Group, apologized for a deadly explosion at its Daejeon facility Monday and pledged to thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and deal with its aftermath.

Hanwha Group and Hanwha Aerospace expressed their condolences after five people were killed in an explosion at the facility in the central city of Daejeon at around 11 a.m., while pledging support for the two others who were injured.

"Hanwha Group will thoroughly determine the cause of the accident and take all necessary measures to ensure that such a tragic incident never happens again," the group said in a statement.

The explosion is believed to have occurred while workers were conducting cleaning operations involving explosive materials. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident.

The accident marked the latest deadly explosion at the facility, which develops large propulsion engines and tactical surface-to-surface weapon systems.
