SEOUL, July 2 (Yonhap) -- Krafton, a South Korean video game holding company, released online multiplayer battle royale game ‘Battlegrounds Mobile India’ in India on Friday (KST).

Battlegrounds Mobile India is a mobile game based on the popular online game ‘PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’.

More than 20 million registered for pre-order on Google Play within two weeks and subsequently accumulated a total of 40 million users by the day before its official launch.

"We are very happy to be able to introduce 'Battleground Mobile India' to Indian users," said Kim Chang-han, CEO of Crafton. "We plan to continue to provide Indian users with unique battle royale experiences and various contents."

Starting with the launch of Battleground Mobile India, Krafton is planning to foster an e-sports-friendly environment in India.

Last month, it invested 9 million USD (about 10.1 billion KRW) in 'Loco', an Indian game streaming platform, and 1.64 billion Indian rupees (about 25.5 billion KRW) in India's leading e-sports company 'NODWIN Gaming' in March.
