SEOUL, Aug. 5 (Yonhap) -- Actor Jung Hae-in on Wednesday promised to bring audiences the charm of classic Korean romance in the upcoming Netflix original Korean series "Our Sticky Love," saying the character he plays is the epitome of steadfast love.
Jung portrays Jang Tae-ha, a boxing coach who claims to be the boyfriend of Go Eun-sae (Ha Young), an ambitious prosecutor who has lost her memory and wakes up at a hospital in the peaceful village of Yeot, which also refers to the sticky traditional Korean candy.
"While I have played characters who portray pure love, Jang Tae-ha is the ultimate example of such love, a character who is so romantic that he can risk his life for the person he loves," Jung told reporters in a press conference promoting the series.
"This project is something full of what not only our country needs, but the whole world needs: romance. I hope audiences enjoy this romance-filled series," he said.
To highlight Tae-ha's pure love, director Kim Jang-han -- known for helming "Do You Like Brahms?" (2020) and "My Demon" (2023) -- said he blended the genre of crime drama into the rom-com series.
"We needed dramatic situations to demonstrate Tae-ha's romantic decisions and actions," Kim said. "While the series is basically a romantic comedy, bringing in the genre of crime was a helpful tool in showing a romantic man who is not afraid to risk his life for love.
"The series is a deeply Korean drama, but I hope it will be loved by audiences around the world," the director added. "It is a series filled with romance and love, so I hope viewers will stay with it until the very end."
The series is Ha's debut as the lead of a romantic comedy after she appeared in several successful Netflix hits, such as "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" (2025) and "Teach You a Lesson" (2026).
The actress said while she was at times overwhelmed about taking on such a role, she started to gain confidence after seeing the edited and completed versions of the series.
"The series is not a cliche, but a classic," Ha said. "I feel that it is a romantic comedy that captures patient love in a long time. I hope that audiences can relate to that deep sentiment."
The series also features Heo Seong-tae, who received global spotlight for his role in the first season of the global megahit "Squid Game" (2021). In "Our Sticky Love," he plays Baek Sang-gil, a ruthless crime boss.
"This role is the most evil villain I have ever played. It does not even compare with Jang Deok-su in 'Squid Game'," Heo said, jokingly adding that he hopes audiences will end up hating his character even more.
"Our Sticky Love" will premiere Friday.
