Defense ministry signs MOU with state housing developer for housing support
SEOUL, Dec. 28 (Yonhap) -- The defense ministry on Thursday signed an initial agreement with state housing developer Korea Land & Housing Corp. for housing support to military officers and noncommissioned officers in remote areas.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding comes amid the ministry's efforts to transition housing for officers and noncommissioned officers to single-person units by 2026 in a broader push to improve their working and living conditions.
The ministry said it will rent 100 single-person units built by the state housing developer to Marines in the southeastern coastal city of Pohang and 44 units to those on the northwestern border island of Baengnyeong.
A total of 70 units will be rented for soldiers in the northwestern city of Paju, the ministry said, adding that it plans to hold more talks with the state housing developer for additional housing support.
