SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- Rose, a member of the K-pop group BLACKPINK, picked up two trophies, including Song of the Year, at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (U.S. time).

She won the honor for "APT.," her collaboration single with global pop icon Bruno Mars, and accepted Best Group on behalf of BLACKPINK during the ceremony at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

The VMAs are among the best-known pop music awards in the United States. It is the first time a K-pop artist has been honored in a main category. For Best Group, it was the K-pop quartet's second win, following 2023.

Mars was not present at the ceremony, but Rose accepted the Song of the Year award on their behalf, taking the stage in a yellow sequined fringe dress.

"Oh, my gosh, I can't believe this," Rose said in her English acceptance speech. "First of all, thank you so much, Bruno ... Thank you so much for believing in me and helping me build this world together."

She dedicated the award to her "16-year-old self, who dreamed, and to all those who have watched me grow into the artist that I am today."

She also gave special thanks to her agency's chief producer Teddy and her fellow BLACKPINK members.

"Oppa, I won an award ... Members, I won an award. I always thank and love you," she said in Korean, smiling brightly. "Oppa" is a Korean term used by women to address an older brother or an older male, in this case referring affectionately to Teddy.

The Best K-Pop award, for which Rose was also nominated, went to her fellow BLACKPINK member Lisa for "Born Again," a collaboration with Doja Cat and Raye, giving the group a total of three trophies. It was Lisa's second consecutive win and third overall in the category.

Hybe's multinational girl group Katseye won MTV Push Performance of the Year for its second single, "Touch."

The prize honors the best artist from among those chosen for the U.S. music channel's "MTV Push" campaign, which features interviews and other content with a different artist each month.

Katseye performed "Gnarly" and "Gabriela" in a pre-show performance for the ceremony.

"Thank you so much. This is all very new to us. This is our first time ever doing this," the group said in English after accepting the prize. "We've been through a lot together, so having this moment feels so rewarding, and feels like everything has paid off and helps us keep going."

Video of the Year, the VMA's top honor of the year, went to pop star Ariana Grande for "Brighter Days Ahead."

Lady Gaga won four trophies, including Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration, making her the night's biggest winner.

Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami -- who sang for Huntr/x, the fictional girl group of Netflix's global hit animated film "KPop Demon Hunters" -- took the stage as presenters for the Best Album category.
