SEOUL, Feb. 2 (Yonhap) -- "Golden" from the soundtrack of Netflix's animated sensation "KPop Demon Hunters" won a historic first Grammy for the K-pop genre.

Rose, however, missed out on a trophy, although she was nominated in three categories, including two major ones -- Song of the Year and Record of the Year -- with "APT.," her hit collaborative single with U.S. pop star Bruno Mars.

"Golden" received Best Song Written for Visual Media during the premiere ceremony of the 68th Grammy Awards at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday (U.S. time).

While South Korean recording engineer Hwang Byeong-joon and Korean American artist Yungin have previously won Grammys, "Golden" represents the first time K-pop producers or songwriters have taken home the award. The songwriters recognized as the official winners include Korean American artist Ejae, as well as Teddy, 24 and Ido -- producers at the South Korean music label The Black Label.

After the win, producer-composer 24 dedicated the honor to Teddy, who did not attend the ceremony. 24 credited the "creative process" to Teddy, calling him "my greatest mentor and closest friend, the pioneer of K-pop."

Performed by Korean American artists Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami as the in-film girl group Huntr/x, "Golden" became a global phenomenon, topping both the Billboard Hot 100 and the British Official Singles Chart Top 100.

Produced by Sony Pictures Animation, "KPop Demon Hunters" centers on the trio, which lives a double life, balancing its music career with duties as warriors protecting the world from demonic spirits, such as the overlord Gwi-Ma and the soul-stealing Saja Boys.

In another closely watched category, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance went to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for "Defying Gravity" from the soundtrack of the film "Wicked," beating out nominees that included "Golden," BLACKPINK's Rose with "APT." and Katseye with "Gabriela."

"Golden" and the "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack competed in five Grammy categories this year, including the general field award for Song of the Year, as well as Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, Best Remixed Recording for its remix version and Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media for its soundtrack album. However, the track won only in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category.

Rose's "APT." was also up for three categories -- Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance -- but came away empty-handed.

Still, Rose made history as the first K-pop artist to earn a nomination in a Grammy general field. Her three nominations tied the record for the most categories a K-pop act has been nominated in, set by K-pop megastars BTS at the 65th Grammy Awards.

This year's Song of the Year went to Billie Eilish's "Wildflower," while Record of the Year was claimed by Kendrick Lamar and SZA's "Luther." The Best New Artist prize, which featured K-pop group Katseye among its nominees, was awarded to British pop singer Olivia Dean.

Rose and Bruno Mars opened the main ceremony with a dynamic performance of "APT.," while K-pop girl group Katseye performed "Gnarly," joining the Best New Artist nominees for a joint performance.
