School in temporary shutdown

An empty classroom stands silent at an elementary school in Incheon, 27 kilometers west of Seoul, on Sept. 4, 2023, as the school was temporarily closed due to teachers' participation in a massive rally to restore teachers' rights on the memorial day for a female teacher at Seoi Elementary School in Seoul, who had apparently taken her own life 49 days ago due to an alleged abuse of power, inflicted upon her by one or more parents. In South Korea, people hold a memorial service on the 49th day of a person's death, known as "sasipguje," to pray for the person's rebirth in paradise. (Yonhap)
