Ex-Kia Tigers general manager's home raided over allegations of kickback from player
SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Yonhap) -- Prosecutors raided the home of a former general manager of the professional baseball team Kia Tigers on Thursday on suspicions of asking a free agent player for a kickback during contract negotiations last year.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office sent investigators to the home of Jang Jung-suk, the Kia Tigers' previous general manager, and other locations to seize evidence in connection with an investigation into the case, officials said.
Jang was fired in March for demanding a kickback twice last year while negotiating a contract with catcher Park Dong-won, who is currently affiliated with the LG Twins.
Park reported Jang to the Korea Professional Baseball Players Association, which followed up with a request for a prosecution investigation into Jang.
Jang was reported to have explained to his former team that it was a joke.
Prosecutors plan to bring him in for questioning after analyzing seized evidence.
