SEOUL, Aug. 27 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating rose to 50 percent after hitting a record low, a poll showed Thursday.

In a National Barometer Survey (NBS) of 1,001 people aged 18 and older conducted Monday to Wednesday, 50 percent positively assessed Lee's handling of state affairs, up 1 percentage point from the previous survey conducted two weeks earlier.

Lee's approval rating fell to 49 percent in the previous poll, hitting its lowest level since he took office.

Disapproval of his performance remained unchanged at 43 percent.

In the same survey, 63 percent said Lee should declare that he would not run in the next presidential election if the Constitution is amended, while 28 percent disagreed.

Currently, the Constitution limits presidents to a single five-year term and stipulates that an amendment to extend the term will not be effective for the president in office at the time the amendment is proposed.

Lee has called for a constitutional revision to introduce a four-year, two-term presidency, saying he is open to shortening his term for the amendment, if necessary.

Support for the ruling Democratic Party stood at 41 percent, up 1 percentage point from the previous survey, while the main opposition People Power Party saw its rating fall 3 percentage points to 20 percent.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
