IU, Lee Jong-suk part ways after 4 years of dating
SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) -- Singer-actress IU and actor Lee Jong-suk have ended their four-year relationship, their respective agencies said Friday.
IU, also known as Lee Ji-eun, and Lee Jong-suk met while emceeing a K-pop music program in 2012 and acknowledged their romantic relationship in 2022.
"The two have broken up," an official at Edam Entertainment, the agency of IU, told Yonhap News Agency.
Lee Jong-suk's agency, Ace Factory, confirmed the breakup, saying they have decided to remain good colleagues.
In 2022, shortly before acknowledging their romantic relationship, Lee indirectly mentioned IU in his speech after winning the MBC Drama Award for his leading role in the thriller drama "Big Mouth."
"Thank you for always being there as the wonderful person you are. I want to tell you that I've liked you deeply for a very long time," the actor said in his acceptance speech.
IU debuted in 2008 as a singer and is currently one of the most popular solo female artists in South Korea with a number of hit songs, including "Good Day" (2010), "Palette" (2017) and "eight" (2020) featuring Suga of K-pop superband BTS.
She has also ventured into acting, taking on roles in hit dramas, such as "My Mister" (2018) and "When Life Gives You Tangerines" (2025).
Lee, who made his debut as a model in 2005, began his acting career in 2010 and has since appeared in an array of hit TV dramas and movies, including "I Hear Your Voice" (2013), "Doctor Stranger" (2014) and "The Face Reader" (2013).
