Springtime blessings
People take part in a ceremony to attach sheets of paper with springtime blessings written in Chinese characters to the gate of Incheon Hyanggyo, an educational institute of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), in Incheon, west of Seoul, on Feb. 2, 2026, two days ahead of "Ipchun," one of the 24 seasonal divisions of the calendar that marks the onset of spring. The banner on the right side of the gate reads "Ipchun Daegil," meaning "Good luck on Ipchun," and the other one on the left reads "Geonyang Dagyeong," meaning "With signs of a positive spirit, your family is full of happiness."
