Lee visits Hanoi heritage site with Vietnam's top leader
By Kim Eun-jung
HANOI, April 24 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung and Vietnam's top leader To Lam visited a cultural heritage site in Hanoi on Friday as part of a program aimed at building rapport between the two leaders.
The two leaders, accompanied by their spouses, toured the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.
The citadel features a blend of architectural styles from China, Vietnam and France, reflecting its evolution across multiple dynasties, and served as Vietnam's political center for centuries.
Friday's outing came two days after Lee, currently on a state visit to Vietnam, and Lam held a bilateral summit, marking their first meeting since the Vietnamese leader visited Seoul in August 2025.
The program was arranged as a gesture of reciprocity for Lee's hospitality shown during Lam's visit to South Korea, in the hope of deepening friendship and building rapport between the two leaders, Lee Kyu-yeon, presidential secretary for public relations, said.
Later in the day, President Lee will wrap up his six-day trip, which also included a visit to India, and return home.
