Busan killer-appeal
Busan's 'curiosity' killer appeals life imprisonment sentence
BUSAN, Nov. 30 (Yonhap) -- Jung Yoo-jung, a psychopathic murder suspect who was sentenced to life in prison last week for killing a stranger just out of curiosity about murder, appealed the verdict, judicial officials said Thursday.
The 23-year-old filed the appeal with the Busan District Court, a few days before a two-week deadline for appeal expires Friday, according to judicial officials.
On Tuesday, prosecutors also filed an appeal, demanding the death sentence for Jung, citing the brutality of the crime and high risk of a second offense.
Jung was arrested on charges of killing a female freelance tutor, with whom she had no personal connection, with a weapon at the latter's home in Busan's Geumjeong district on May 26, dismembering the victim's body and dumping some of the body parts in a riverside bush in Yangsan, just north of Busan.
The Busan District Court handed down the life imprisonment sentence to Jung last week, dismissing her claim that she was in a state of mental and physical disorder at the time of her crime.
