1 killed, 2 injured in apartment fire in Uiwang

UIWANG, South Korea, April 30 (Yonhap) -- A fire broke out at an apartment in Uiwang, just south of Seoul, on Thursday, killing one person and injuring two others, officials said.

The blaze began at about 10:30 a.m. on the 14th floor of the 20-story building, prompting authorities to dispatch some 70 firefighters to the scene.

One resident fell from the building and was pronounced dead. Two others suffered minor injuries, such as burns and smoke inhalation.

Fire authorities brought the main blaze under control at 11:21 a.m. and plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire.
