SEOUL, May 25 (Yonhap) -- K-pop rookie boy group ENHYPEN has been around half a year since its debut, has entered the Billboard main album chart at number 18 with its second album.
Billboard wrote on its official SNS on May 24th (KST) that ENHYPEN's second mini-album "BORDER: CARNIVAL" made such a performance. The official ranking of the "Billboard 200" chart will be updated on the 25th.
It is unusual for a rookie K-pop group, who have been active less than a year, to enter the top of the Billboard album chart for the first time.
ENHYPEN is the only rookie group that has debuted since last year to be listed on the "Billboard 200" chart. It is also the highest ranking of all the K-pop artist albums released this year.
ENHYPEN was formed through an audition called "I-LAND," a joint venture between Hybe Corporation and CJ ENM, a leading entertainment giant in Korea, and debuted last November.
Since the boy group was organized through a global fan voting system in "I-LAND," they have built a fandom both in Korea and overseas earlier on in the show.
In particular, the second mini album "BORDER: CARNIVAL," which was released on April 26th after their debut album "Border: Day One," proved ENHYPEN's rapid increase in fans and impressive album sales.
The album features intense sounds and performances that reflect the members' feelings about the world, which they've experienced since their debut.
"BORDER: CARNIVAL" topped Japan's Oricon monthly album chart in April, while the title track "Drunk-Dazed" ranked 166th on the Billboard Global chart (excluding the United States).
ENHYPEN has been performing their sequel song "FEVER" since the 20th.
