S. Korea to dispatch public-private delegation to Europe to expand space cooperation

SEOUL, June 26 (Yonhap) -- South Korea plans to dispatch a public-private delegation to Europe next week in a bid to broaden cooperation in the space sector with European nations, the foreign ministry said Friday.

The delegation, jointly organized by the foreign ministry and the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA), will hold a series of "Space Day" events in Belgium, Romania and Poland.

The dispatch is designed to boost space cooperation with members of the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), as well as key Eastern European countries, the ministry said.

The delegation includes government officials from relevant agencies and officials from major Korean aerospace and defense companies, including Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd., Hanwha Systems Co., Hyundai Rotem Co., Hyundai Motor Co., Satrec Initiative Co. and Innospace Co.

The first event is scheduled to take place in Brussels on Monday, followed by Bucharest on Wednesday and Warsaw on Friday.

"Participants will exchange views on space policies and explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation," the ministry said in a release.

"The events are also expected to help Korean firms strengthen partnerships with European counterparts and identify new business chances in the region," it added.

On the sidelines of the events, the delegation plans to arrange one-on-one meetings between Korean companies and local government agencies and businesses.
