Foreigner believed to be missing returns safely

NAMYANGJU, South Korea, May 25 (Yonhap) -- A foreign national who called emergency services after getting lost on a suburban hiking trail was confirmed to have safely returned to her residence in Seoul, police and fire authorities said Monday.

The Hong Kong national, a woman in her 50s, was found at the residence in Seoul at around 10:50 a.m. Sunday, according to the authorities.

The woman, whose identity was withheld, first made the call at around 9:06 p.m. Friday but the phone connection was eventually lost, prompting authorities to conduct a search involving helicopters, drones and rescue dogs.

The search took place at Cheolmasan mountain in Namyangju, north of Seoul, after the woman mentioned "iron horse" as her location. Cheolma means "iron horse" in Korean.

Authorities wrapped up the search operation after tracking her location through CCTV footage from Namyangju to Seoul. The woman also confirmed she was the person who had made the call.
