S. Korea raises travel alert for Uganda, plans ban for part of DR Congo over Ebola outbreak
SEOUL, May 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Thursday raised its travel alert for Uganda and plans to impose a travel ban on part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo amid the spread of the Ebola virus disease in the region.
The foreign ministry said it raised the travel warning for all of Uganda from Level 2, which advises against nonessential travel, to a special travel advisory effective 10 a.m.
The ministry plans to issue a Level 4 travel ban, the highest level in South Korea's four-tier travel alert system, for Ituri Province in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo following the completion of necessary procedures.
The government urged South Korean nationals to cancel or postpone planned travel to Uganda and advised those staying in the country to pay special attention to their safety.
On Tuesday, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency designated the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan as priority quarantine management countries for the Ebola virus disease.
The ministry said it will continue monitoring the outbreak and review whether additional travel warning adjustments are necessary.
