S. Korea, Mongolia discuss ways to enhance bilateral ties

SEOUL, May 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Mongolia have held director general-level talks to discuss ways to further develop their strategic partnership, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.

Nam Jin, director general of the ministry's Northeast and Central Asian Affairs Bureau, visited Mongolia for two days from Wednesday and met with his counterpart, Damdin Gansukh, and other senior foreign ministry officials, according to the ministry.

"During the meetings, the two sides reviewed pending issues related to substantive bilateral cooperation and held in-depth discussions on ways to further deepen bilateral ties," the ministry said in a release.

They also agreed to continue close communication to further advance the two countries' strategic partnership in a more substantive manner, it added.

The two sides have been seeking to enhance cooperation on supply chains for critical minerals, cultural exchanges and regional security issues, the ministry said.

During phone talks with Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh in September, President Lee Jae Myung proposed "mutually beneficial" cooperation between Mongolia, rich in natural resources, and South Korea, which possesses advanced technologies.
