S. Korean stock markets to close on June 3 for local elections

SEOUL, May 20 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean stock markets will be closed on June 3, the day of local elections, the bourse operator said Wednesday.

The financial markets, including the main Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) and the secondary tech-heavy KOSDAQ, as well as the ETF, the derivatives markets and commodity markets, such as petroleum and gold, will be closed as people go to the polls, according to the Korea Exchange.

In addition, the financial markets will be closed on July 17 for Constitution Day that has been reinstated as a public holiday for the first time in 18 years, the Korea Exchange said.
