S. Korea to boost flights to Hungary, Austria following new air traffic rights agreements

SEOUL, April 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has agreed to increase the number of flights to and from Hungary and Austria following recent aviation talks with the countries, a move expected to improve travel options for tourists and business people, the transport ministry said Wednesday.

The latest round of talks with Hungary was held last Wednesday in Budapest, in which the countries agreed to increase flights between the two. A similar deal was reached in talks with Austria, held in Vienna on Thursday, according to the ministry.

Under the agreement with Hungary, the two sides expanded passenger traffic rights between all airports from six flights per week to 14.

Under the deal with Austria, flights between the countries will sharply increase to 21 from four each week. The countries also agreed to create additional routes connecting South Korea with regional cities of Austria outside of Vienna in the future.

The ministry said the move reflects growing demand among South Korean travelers for direct routes to various European destinations.

"The expanded agreements are expected to significantly enhance travel convenience and options for South Korean passengers," said Joo Jong-wan, director general for aviation policy at the ministry.
