Auspicious animal for Gwanghwamun woldae
This photo, provided by the Cultural Heritage Administration on Aug. 29, 2023, shows two stone sculptures featuring "Seosu," an imaginary auspicious animal, which the family of the late Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee has donated to the agency. The sculptures are believed to have been originally installed in the front part of the "woldae" in front of Gwanghwamun, the main gate of the Joseon Dynasty's (1392-1910) Gyeongbok Palace, in downtown Seoul. A woldae is a stage built with stone in front of ancient gates that was used for royal rituals and ceremonies. (PHOTO NOT FOR SALE) (Yonhap)
