SEOUL, July 28 (Yonhap) -- A special counsel team questioned former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun on Tuesday about allegations of plotting to detain and potentially kill politicians during former President Yoon Suk Yeol's martial law bid.

Special counsel Kwon Chang-young's team visited Kim at Seoul Dongbu Detention Center in eastern Seoul to question him about the allegations stemming from notes belonging to a retired general involved in Yoon's failed 2024 bid.

Noh Sang-won, the retired general, allegedly listed President Lee Jae Myung, then opposition leader, former President Moon Jae-in, and others as "class A" targets to be detained in his notes.

The notes allegedly said they would be transferred to the border island of Yeonpyeong in the Yellow Sea.

Noh has maintained the notes merely recorded ideas and has refused to testify in court about them.

Kim was sentenced to 30 years in prison in February for playing a key role in an insurrection under Yoon's short-lived declaration of martial law. He has appealed the ruling.
