S. Korea's special envoy visits Bolivia on 60th anniv. of diplomatic ties
SEOUL, April 11 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean special envoy has visited Bolivia and discussed ways to enhance cooperation with senior officials, marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties this month, the foreign ministry said Friday.
Jang Myung-soo, former ambassador to Argentina and Colombia, traveled to the Bolivian administrative city of La Paz earlier this week and met with top government officials in the South American nation, including Vice President David Choquehuanca Cespedes, the ministry said in a release.
In the meeting with the vice president, the two sides agreed to make efforts to strengthen substantive cooperation in various sectors, with Jang expressing hope that more high-level exchanges will take place in the future.
Jang also offered condolences to the victims and their families affected by the recent floods in Bolivia.
Jang also met separately with Bolivian Environment Minister Alvaro Ruiz Garcia and Development Planning Minister Sergio Cusicanqui Loayza for discussions on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in climate change, critical minerals and other areas.
On the occasion of the visit, South Korea and Bolivia signed a new Economic Development Cooperation Fund program, a low-rate loan scheme run by South Korea for developing countries.
