SEOUL, Aug. 24 (Yonhap) -- Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol discussed cooperation in technology and infrastructure projects with the president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Seoul's finance ministry said Monday.

Koo met with AIIB President Zou Jiayi in Seoul earlier in the day to discuss ways to bolster cooperation, according to the Ministry of Finance and Economy. It marked Zou's first visit to an advanced donor country in Asia since taking office in January.

During the meeting, Koo noted that the AIIB has gradually grown into one of the world's major multilateral development banks and stressed the importance of Zou's leadership in its continued development.

The AIIB's membership currently stands at 111 countries, up from 57 in 2016.

In response, Zou said South Korea's contributions have helped the organization grow, expressing gratitude for the continued support from Asia's No. 4 economy.

Koo noted that South Korea can combine its technological capabilities with the AIIB's financial capacity to carry out development projects in the region.

Zou vowed to expand cooperation with South Korea in areas including technology-based infrastructure projects and personnel exchanges, according to the finance ministry.
