S. Korea to repatriate remains of 12 Chinese troops killed during Korean War

SEOUL, April 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will repatriate the remains of 12 Chinese troops who were killed while fighting alongside North Korea during the 1950-53 Korean War this week, the defense ministry said Tuesday.

The ministry will hold an event marking the handover of the remains to China at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, on Wednesday, according to the ministry.

South Korea has so far repatriated the remains of 1,011 Chinese troops since 2014 in accordance with international law and on humanitarian grounds.

This year's ceremony will be publicly held and be attended by vice-ministerial-level officials of the two nations for the first time in three years in consideration of an improvement in South Korea-China relations.
