SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung on Tuesday congratulated snowboarder Yu Seung-eun on winning a bronze medal at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.

"I extend my warm congratulations," Lee wrote on Facebook after Yu won the bronze medal in the women's big air event in Italy on Monday (local time).

"The bronze medal she won at the age of 18 in her first Olympic appearance sets a new milestone in the history of snowboarding of the Republic of Korea," he added, referring to South Korea's official name.

Lee said Yu's performance was even more meaningful as she overcame an injury and underwent rehabilitation to compete in the Olympics.

"In a high-risk event like snowboard big air, Yu's bold spirit of challenge and unwavering focus filled the people with awe and deep emotion," Lee said.
