SEOUL, June 7 (Yonhap) -- McDonald's
"The BTS Meal," which was released in partnership with the group BTS,
is creating a sensation in Korea.
The average daily sales of McNuggets in
Korea jumped 283% during May 27 to June 4 in comparison to the daily average during the four weeks before the release
of "The BTS Meal," according to McDonald's Korea on Monday.
The BTS set menu consists a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, medium fries and Coke
as well as two special dipping sauces--sweet chili and Cajun flavors. The menu
was released in 50 countries around the world starting from May 27.
The surge in McNugget sales at McDonald's, which used to be dominated by
burgers, is unusual and shows that the BTS set menu is rapidly gaining popularity.
Sales of McDonald's famous dessert "Oreo
McFlurry" also rose 45% over the same period.
While the Oreo McFlurry isn't included in the BTS set, BTS member V previously mentioned
his liking to the dessert. It is also said that ARMY(s), BTS's fandom, often
buy the Oreo McFlurry along with the BTS set.
An official from McDonald's Korea said, "Pictures of 'The BTS Meal' taken
by customers who are frequently being uploaded on SNS. The buzz created on
different social media platforms in Korea has increased about 17 times since
its launch."
