Defense ministry opens official X account under spokesperson's name

SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Yonhap) -- The defense ministry said Thursday it has opened an official social media account of its spokesperson in a bid to better communicate with the public over defense policy.

The account on X, formerly known as Twitter, opened Wednesday in the name of the ministry's spokesperson (@MNDSpokesperson), according to the ministry.

"Social media is a space where people can communicate with each other at the closest range," Chung Binna, the ministry's spokesperson, said.

"We will gradually build public trust by transparently and truthfully conveying the military's core mission and explaining defense policies in detail."
