SEOUL, June 18 (Yonhap) -- The World Taekwondo Federation (WT) decided to postpone the World Taekwondo Championship, which was scheduled to be held in Wuxi in October this year, until next year.
The exact date of the competition has yet to be scheduled.
The organizing committee of the Wuxi Championship asked to postpone the competition until next year in consideration of the COVID-19 situation, which was approved by the executive committee.
Additionally, the election of the president and executive committee members originally scheduled to be held on October 11, will be held through an online by voting system.
The online voting system, which was also used in elections by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), will select the next president and executive committee members.
Applications for election candidates were distributed on May 11 and can be downloaded from the WT website (http://www.worldtaekwondo.org/election/election_2021.html).
The deadline for applying as candidates was July 11 and the final list of candidates will be announced on August 11.
The executive committee also reported the change in the Taekwondo competition at the Tokyo Olympics, which is scheduled to open next month.
The Tokyo Olympic Taekwondo Games will feature 130 athletes, the largest number ever, with refugee teams participating.
In addition, a new high-tech uniform that focuses on functionality and a 4D replay system through 360-degree images with 100 cameras will be introduced. A co-ed competition will also be held.
