English chatbot service launched for multicultural conscripts

SEOUL, June 8 (Yonhap) -- The military manpower agency said Monday that it has launched an English-language chatbot service to make military service information more accessible to those subject to mandatory military service who face difficulties communicating in Korean.

The Ara chatbot will provide 24-hour online counseling and other services related to military administration, including military service examination, conscription and mobilization training, the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) said.

Those subject to mandatory military service at home and abroad will be able to access the information in English, the MMA said.

"We will continue to expand digital military administration services so that citizens can conveniently fulfill their military service obligations regardless of where they are," MMA Commissioner Hong So-young said in a release.
