SEOUL, March 21 (Yonhap) -- Some global fans of K-pop sensation BTS flocked to downtown Seoul overnight to get a glimpse of their favorite idol group performing its long-awaited comeback at the heart of the capital city.

"I didn't get the tickets (for the show), but I spent the night here to be able to get a good view at close range," said a 31-year-old Philippine national who only gave his first name Sandy.

Sandy said he came as soon as his work shift ended at 10 p.m. on Friday, noting that he could not book an accommodation nearby due to excessively high prices.

Other fans spent the night at nearby fast-food chains, with stores near Gwanghwamun Square booming with BTS fans eager to steal a moment of the special live performance.

Britanny, a 19-year-old Malaysian student, said she and her friends had flocked to the area as soon as they wrapped up a pop rally event at Korea University the previous day.

"None of us have tickets, so we're waiting until the live performance," she said.

In contrast, the area near the main stage at Gwanghwamun Square was rather secluded, strictly marked by police lines to fend off non-ticket holders.

No reports of damage have been filed with police or firefighters yet, officials said, despite initial concerns over mishaps from BTS fans swarming the streets overnight.
