KAI signs agreement with Polish defense firms for FA-50 jet maintenance
SEOUL, June 25 (Yonhap) -- Korea Aerospace Industries Co. (KAI) said Tuesday it has forged an agreement with a Polish defense firm to establish a support system for maintenance and related services for its FA-50 fighter jets exported by KAI.
KAI said it signed a teaming agreement with WZL-2, a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) subsidiary of Poland's state-owned defense group PGZ, for the establishment of the support system for FA-50s at an Air Force base in Poland.
In July 2022, KAI signed a US$3 billion deal with Poland to export 48 FA-50s to the European country. Last year, KAI delivered 12 units to Poland and established a local office to complete the transfer and reassembly.
Under the agreement, KAI plans to establish a comprehensive support system that includes supply, maintenance and technical support to ensure that the Polish Air Force can operate the FA-50 aircraft reliably throughout its life cycle.
KAI said the system will enable the Polish Air Force to maintain a constant state of combat readiness.
"We will continue to strengthen the defense industry cooperation between South Korea and Poland, Lee Sang-jae, executive vice president of KAI, said, adding, "Poland will become a key hub for FA-50 aircraft support in the European market."
