SEOUL, May 18 (Yonhap) -- Amazon.com Inc, led by Jeff Bezos, is negotiating to acquire U.S. movie studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Reuters reported on the 17th (KST), citing the U.S. IT media, The Information.

The Information reported that multiple sources said the negotiations are under way and that there is a possibility that a deal may not be made this time.

Amazon stated it "doesn't comment on rumors or speculation."

MGM, famous as the movie studio for the "James Bond" franchise, also currently operates a cable channel, Epix, and makes TV shows.

MGM has already tried to make a sale several times and has recently contacted investment banks such as Morgan Stanley and LionTree LLC, according to Reuters last December.

Amazon has steadily expanded its presence in the media industry by setting up Amazon Studio in 2010 and producing its own dramas as well as providing an online video service (OTT), "Prime Video."
