Return of Joseon-era 'royal shrine' from Japan
Huh Min, administrator of the Korea Heritage Service, speaks during the opening ceremony of an exhibition on Gwanwoldang, a building believed to be a royal shrine from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), at the National Palace Museum of Korea in Seoul on Dec. 23, 2025. The heritage agency is set to exhibit parts of the disassembled building, donated by Takao Sato, chief priest of Kotoku-in Temple in Kamakura, near Tokyo, at Gyejodang Hall inside Gyeongbok Palace, the main royal palace during the dynasty, starting the next day, 100 years after it was taken to Japan.
