SEOUL, Aug. 5 (Yonhap) -- Leading online lender Kakao Bank said Wednesday it posted record earnings in the first half due to a rise in both interest and non-interest income.

Net profit during the January-June period rose 24.4 percent from a year earlier to a record high of 328 billion won (US$229 million), the company said in a regulatory filing.

Its operating profit fell 0.45 percent on-year to 351 billion won over the cited period. Revenue increased 5.5 percent to 1.64 trillion won.

During the second quarter alone, its net profit reached 141 billion won, up 11.5 percent from a year earlier, the internet-only service provider added.

In the first half, its interest income gained 5.9 percent on-year to 1.06 trillion won, and non-interest income also rose 4.8 percent to 589 billion won over the cited period.

As of end-June, the number of the bank's customers had stood at 27.63 million. Its monthly active users reached 20.32 million.
