U.S. Indo-Pacific commander receives honorary Korean name

SEOUL, Jan. 30 (Yonhap) -- Admiral John Aquilino, the commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, has received an honorary Korean name as a gift from a South Korea-U.S. friendship group, organizers said Tuesday.

Members of the Republic of Korea-U.S. Alliance Friendship Association presented the Korean name, Lee Tae-soo, to the admiral during their visit to the command in Hawaii on Friday.

His first name, Tae-soo, means great and excellent, respectively, the association said.

Aquilino said he was honored to receive the Korean name and reaffirmed the robust South Korea-U.S. alliance, it said.

He is one of dozens of top U.S. military officials who have been given a Korean name by the association as a token of remembrance.
