SEOUL, Oct. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's foreign reserves fell in September to end their three-month rise due to a fall in foreign currency-denominated assets, the central bank said Tuesday.
The country's foreign reserves stood at US$440.56 billion as of end-September, down $1.72 billion from a month earlier, according to data from the Bank of Korea (BOK).
The BOK attributed the fall to a decline in foreign currency deposits held by financial institutions.
Foreign securities, including U.S. Treasuries, fell $1.05 billion from a month earlier to $386.03 billion at end-September, accounting for 87.6 percent of the country's total foreign reserves.
The value of foreign currency deposits declined $350 million to $29.95 billion, while special drawing rights (SDRs) also fell $290 million to $15.77 billion.
Gold bullion holdings remained unchanged at $4.79 billion.
