Los Angeles, May 3 (Yonhap) -- SM Entertainment will hold a K-pop audition with MGM Television, an American broadcasting program production company, on the 6th, according to the U.S. entertainment media Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.
The two companies recently formed a partnership with the goal of creating a K-pop group based in the United States, and decided to select members through an audition.
The newly formed group will be a unit of SM boy band NCT (small group) and will work under the name "NCT Hollywood".
NCT is a huge group introduced by SM and operates in a unique form that is free to recruit members and has no limit on the number of members.
NCT currently has 23 members, including NCT 127, consisting of teenagers, and WayV in China.
Auditions to select "NCT Hollywood" members will be held for American men aged 13 to 25.
Contestants will participate in dance, vocal and style competitions, and NCT current members will serve as judges and mentors.
Lee Soo-man, SM's general producer, said in a statement, "“We aim to help the contestants show their unlimited potential in becoming true artists. I hope the audience enjoys watching the journey of new stars being born in Hollywood, that will be promoted as NCT-Hollywood in the global market in the future.”
MGM Worldwide Television Group Chairman Mark Burnett said, “K-Pop is more than a genre of music; it’s a cultural phenomenon and we’re so excited to partner with the incredible Soo-Man Lee and the team at SM to bring K-Pop to the U.S.”
