NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korean President Lee Jae Myung wrapped up his three-day visit to New York on Wednesday and embarked on a trip to Mexico, where he will make a state visit and hold a bilateral summit with his Mexican counterpart.

Addressing the 81st U.N. General Assembly the previous day, Lee reaffirmed his envisioned role as a "pacemaker" in establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula, pledging efforts to help swiftly resume dialogue between the United States and North Korea.

In a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the U.S. meeting, Lee and U.S. President Donald Trump also reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation on pending issues, including Seoul's pursuit of nuclear-powered submarines, and rights to enrich uranium and reprocess spent nuclear fuel.

Earlier Wednesday, Lee attended an investment relations event that brought together financial and industrial leaders from South Korea and the U.S., seeking to promote investment in South Korea by outlining the country's macroeconomic conditions and commitment to market reforms.

The president is now heading to Mexico, where he is scheduled to hold summit talks with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Thursday to discuss bilateral cooperation, including trade, investment and supply chains.

Lee will depart Mexico on Saturday to return home the following day.
