WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 (Yonhap) -- The United States will host a Group of 20 (G20) summit in Florida in December, the Treasury Department said Thursday.
The department announced a schedule for G20 "Finance Track" meetings, saying that the U.S. G20 host year will culminate with President Donald Trump hosting the leaders' meeting on Dec. 14-15 at Trump National Doral in Miami in the Sunshine State.
In September, Trump said that the U.S. would host the summit at the resort in December this year for the first time in nearly 20 years. As South Korea is part of the G20, President Lee Jae Myung could also attend the summit.
Ahead of the summit, a meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors will take place in Washington on April 16, followed by a meeting of finance and central bank deputies in Asheville, North Carolina, on Aug. 29-30, according to the department.
Another meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors is set to be held in Asheville on Aug. 31-Sept. 1, followed by a meeting of the ministers and central bank governors in Bangkok on Oct. 15.
In a press release, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent outlined a series of G20 topics, including modernizing financial regulation, strengthening the understanding of excessive global imbalances, enhancing debt transparency and facilitating debt restructuring processes, and supporting a vibrant digital assets ecosystem.
