WASHINGTON, May 29 (Yonhap) -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that he will hold a meeting in the White House Situation Room to make a "final determination" on peace negotiations with Iran, reiterating his demands that Iran forgo any pursuit of a nuclear weapon and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump made the remarks in a social media post following reports suggesting that Washington and Tehran are nearing an agreement on a 60-day memorandum of understanding to extend their ceasefire, reopen the crucial strait, and continue negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.

"I will be meeting now, in the Situation Room, to make a final determination," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He reiterated his key demands for a peace deal with Iran.

"Iran must agree that they will never have a nuclear weapon or bomb," he said. "The Strait of Hormuz must be immediately opened, with no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic in both directions.
