What isn’t mentioned is that during World War II, Imperial Japan forced thousands of Koreans to do high-risk mining work on Sado. The case of Battleship Island proves Koreans are right to be concerned about Japan’s efforts to have Sado recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
